With its wild and romantic beauty, as well as the hospitality of the locals, Dong Ho Lagoon in Ha Tien City, Kien Giang Province is an ideal destination for the upcoming four-day holiday commemorating Vietnam's Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers' Day (May 1).

According to Lam Van Hue, a 74-year-old resident of Ha Tien City's Dong Ho Ward, Dong Ho Lagoon has significant strengths and potential for socio-economic development, particularly aquaculture and tourism services.

Hue currently owns more than 200 hectares of land to grow various fruits such as coconut, jackfruit, mango, and plum, as well as to raise shrimp and crabs in order to support his family.

"Although the lagoon contains salt water, every fruit tree I grow is sweet," Hue stated.

"My shrimp and crabs are also growing quickly.

"The people in the area live in peace and kindness.

"They are well behaved, eager to assist, and don’t care much about monetary issues."

Dong Ho Lagoon has a diverse and rich ecosystem with over 155 species of vertebrates.

There are 114 species of birds, six of which are listed in Vietnam's Red Data Book, including the Mountain imperial pigeon, Indian nightjar, Van Hasselt's sunbird, Collared kingfisher, and other animals like Germain's langur and treeshrew.

Locals are channeling investments into Dong Ho Lagoon to develop community eco-tours, according to Nguyen Thi Mong Tuyen, director of the Ha Tien Trade, Commerce, and Tourism Promotion Center.
