Tourism authorities in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam on Sunday installed 138 signboards of 'WC Free Use For Tourist' at local businesses and households offering free bathrooms to travelers.

The initiative was launched by the Hue City Party Committee to establish a system of free restrooms for travelers in an effort to develop and promote the provincial capital Hue's tourism image as a warm, secure, modern, and culturally-rich destination.

Phan Thien Dinh, secretary of the Hue City Party Committee, used his own Facebook profile to encourage his friends and local residents to support the campaign.

After a month, 138 businesses and residences decided to take part in the activity.

These properties are marked with a 'WC Free Use For Tourist' signboard.

According to Phan Thien Dinh, this is the second time the city has launched a program to call on locals to provide free bathrooms for tourists.

Previously, the city first initiated this program in 2017 and learned some lessons.

Dinh stated that in the near future, Hue City will invest more in public restrooms, with pay toilets funded by the private sector and public restrooms attached with other pay services to afford the operation of the restrooms.
