Bac Giang Province is well known for being one of the main lychee-growing hubs in Vietnam, thus it comes as a surprise to many that the northern province also boasts a diversity of stunning landscapes.

Despite being barely 50 kilometers from the capital city of Hanoi, Bac Giang remains an undiscovered tourist destination in northern Vietnam. 

Backpackers who visit Bac Giang during the summer will have the opportunity to savor lychees, immerse themselves in the magnificent scenery, and discover the region's centuries-old villages.

Picking up lychees at Luc Ngan orchards

Lychee is a summertime specialty fruit in the north, where it is cultivated in numerous locales.

However, the most renowned lychee comes from Luc Ngan District in Bac Giang.

The dulcet taste of the lychee fruits here distinguishes them from those available in other localities.

Despite the medium size of the fruit, its seed is the size of a pea, allowing fruit enthusiasts to enjoy a satisfying bite after peeling the skin.

Lychee plantations currently cover 15,700 hectares in Luc Ngan. Visitors to the district at this time will experience the delight and excitement of farmers as they begin the major lychee harvest.

Along the roads, merchants are actively trading, transforming them into a veritable paradise of the red fruit.

Besides lychees, tourists can also enjoy other delicious fruits such as longans and syrah grapes at the orchards.

'Banh da dua': Tho Ha’s village delicacy

The Tho Ha traditional village in Viet Yen District has been famed for nearly a century for its distinctive banh da dua (coconut rice wafer) and banh da nem (rice paper wrapper).

Travelers entering the village will immediately notice the countless bamboo racks where banh da are spread out to dry.

Tho Ha villagers claim that there is a special recipe required to produce chewy banh da nem, and that wind is used in place of sunlight to dry the delicacy.

The village, 40 kilometers from Hanoi, is a must-visit place for weekend photographers seeking a vintage vibe.

Camping in Dong Cao Plateau

In Thach Son Ward of Son Dong District, there is a small plateau known as Dong Cao.

With its untamed and poetic green meadows, this plateau offers one of the most spectacular views of sunset in the northern part of the country.

Since this area is still largely undeveloped, neither lodging nor dining services have been established.

However, Dong Cao is ideal for people in search of a serene atmosphere. 

When exploring Dong Cao, backpackers must be well-prepared with camping gear, food, and lighting.

Tourists can gaze at the magnificent mountains and take in the chilly northern weather from Dong Cao's altitude of more than 1,000 meters above sea level. 

September through November is the greatest season to camp in Dong Cao since the weather is neither too hot nor too cold.

Exploring newly-opened Tay Yen Tu tourist area

Yen Tu is a mountain range that stretches across three provinces: Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, and Hai Duong.

It is linked with the spiritual tourist destination of Yen Tu Pagoda in Quang Ninh Province, which has long been well-renowned among tourists.

Nevertheless, the Tay Yen Tu tourism area in Bac Giang Province just recently began to appear on the tourist map.

Despite its newness, the area has swiftly captivated travelers with its tranquil aura.

Visitors to Tay Yen Tu can have the chance to explore major temples and monuments, hunt clouds, and view the Yen Tu mountain range from the cable car that connects the two tourism destinations of Bac Giang and Quang Ninh.
