Though spring has not yet arrived, a valley in Moc Chau District, Son La Province in northern Vietnam is covered in lovely white plum blossom petals.

On the Moc Chau plateau, plum blossoms typically signal the arrival of spring, with the region covering itself in a blanket of white plum flowers from late January to mid-February.

This year, however, many of the plum trees in Moc Chau have started to bloom several months early.

Although Moc Chau has experienced off-season plum blossom blooms before, this one is the earliest and occurs three months prior to the normal flowering season.

Photographs of plum blossoms taken in Na Ka Valley, about 16 kilometers from Moc Chau Town, have gone viral on the Internet, stunning netizens with its poetic landscape.

According to Quang Kien, a photographer in Moc Chau District, the entrance fee to the Na Ka plum valley is VND30,000 (US$1.2) per person. There is no limit on the amount of time visitors can spend in the valley.

"Moc Chau's weather is quite cool at night and early in the morning. Visitors who wish to observe plum blossoms in the off season should dress warmly in order to stay healthy," Kien said.

“The ideal times to observe and photograph the plum blooms are at dawn and dusk.

“Photographers can capture the petals sparkling in the early morning dew.

“Meanwhile, visitors can enjoy afternoons capturing vibrant photographs against vivid backdrops."

As the blooms only last for two to three weeks before they are replaced by fruit, tourists who wish to catch the spectacle should make sure to visit the site as soon as possible.

Aside from the plum blossom, travelers can visit the persimmon garden and admire the buckwheat blossoms, Japanese apricots, and white rapeseed flowers that will bloom at the end of the year.
