The History Museum of Ho Chi Minh City is exhibiting a wide array of valuable ceramic antiquities spanning from the 11th century to the early 20th century.

The exhibition opened at 2 Nguyen Binh Khiem Street in District 1 on Monday morning and will last through October 30 as part of the commemorative activities marking the 15th founding anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh City Antiquities Association.

Nearly 170 items contributed by 27 members of the association are on display.

They have their origins in both Vietnam and China and come in a wide variety of ceramic materials and categories.

These include worship statues and incense burners, ornamental ceramics like miniature figurines and decorative vases, as well as utilitarian ceramics like bowls, plates, teapots, and water containers.

Among them, several stand out as exceptionally unique or rare pieces.

There is a green glazed ceramic pot crafted during the Ly Dynasty (1009-1225) and considered the only of its kind.

The pot is designed to resemble a starfruit. Both the lid and the top of the pot bear a twin lotus motif.

The spout of the pot combines a dragon’s head and a parrot’s tail.

The dragon’s head symbolizes authority, while the parrot’s tail signifies wisdom.

A plate from the Chu Dau pottery line, which stems from the namesake ancient village in the northern Vietnamese province of Hai Duong, stands out with its central motif portraying two dogs playfully chasing each other.

In Vietnamese culture, dogs are revered as faithful, intelligent creatures and are often seen as companions to humans.

On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City Antiquities Association donated a total of 91 antiques contributed by its members to the History Museum of Ho Chi Minh City.
