The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Ho Chi Minh City reopened its rare butterfly garden on Tuesday following its latest renovation.

The garden, which was put in operation in 2008, has added a display area featuring the life cycle of butterflies and collections of butterfly specimens.

Along with that is a nursery that nurtures nearly 1,000 butterfly individuals of all kinds collected from the Nam Cat Tien National Park in southern Binh Phuoc Province and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

On Tuesday, one of the early visitors, Minh Dat from District 1, was pleasantly surprised to witness rare butterfly specimens in person, an experience he had previously only seen on TV.

In addition to the butterfly garden, visitors can partake in various activities at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, which will remain open during the Tet holiday.

The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, established in 1864, stands as one of the eight oldest zoos globally.
