American singer Katy Perry will travel to Vietnam to perform at the VinFuture Award Ceremony 2023 on Wednesday next week, marking her third trip to the Southeast Asian nation.
The VinFuture Prize, a global science and technology prize in Vietnam, is scheduled to take place at Ho Guom (Sword Lake) Opera House on Wednesday evening next week, featuring the participation of world-renowned singer Perry, according to the VinFuture Foundation.
This year’s VinFuture Prize will be attended by outstanding scientists, winners of coveted accolades such as Nobel and Millennium Technology, and international academicians.
In 2015, Perry came to Vietnam to sit in on a summit in Ho Chi Minh City.
One year later, she participated in UNICEF’s charity initiatives in Ninh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
During her previous trips to Vietnam, Perry gave no performances.
This will be her first time to perform in front of Vietnamese audiences.
The organizer of the event has yet to reveal the songs Perry will sing during the ceremony, but her gigs are aimed at spreading the spirit of determination, decisiveness, and firmness.
Born in 1984, Katy Perry, whose real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, is famous for a series of big hits such as Dark Horse, Roar, Firework, Last Friday Night, and Hot N Cold.
She is also known for her influence on modern pop music and her camp style.
Camp is an aesthetic style and sensibility characterized by an appreciation for something that is considered appealing due to its bad taste and ironic value.
Perry started her music career in 2001.
She shot to stardom with her second studio album ‘One of the Boys’ in 2008.
The album contained her debut single ‘I Kissed a Girl’ and follow-up single ‘Hot N Cold,’ which reached number one and three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, respectively.
Her next much-loved albums included Teenage Dream, Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, Prism, Witness, and Smile.
Among her singles in ‘Prism’ released in 2013, Roar and Dark Horse, which center the rights of women, topped many lists of the most-favored songs in the United States and other nations.
Both their respective music videos made Perry the first artist to have multiple videos reach one billion views on Vevo.
Bagging a slew of awards at AMAs, Billboard, and People’s Choice Awards among others throughout her career, Perry is currently one of the world’s best selling music artists of all time.
In September, she signed a deal to sell rights to five of her studio albums released between 2008 and 2020 including 'Teenage Dream' to Carlyle-backed Litmus Music, Reuters reported.
‘One of the Boys,’ ‘Prism,’ ‘Witness,’ and ‘Smile’ are the other four studio albums that are part of the deal valued at US$225 million.
