Lee Kyoung Dock, chargé d'affaires of the South Korean Embassy in Vietnam, at a meeting with representatives of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Thursday, expressed his excitement at the newspaper’s initiative of organizing the Vietnam Phở Festival 2024 in Seoul in early September and believed the event to be a success.
At the meeting, a representative of Tuoi Tre said the organizer of the festival expects to contribute to promoting Vietnam’s traditional cuisine and improving the value of Vietnamese rice through pho, a Vietnamese soup consisting of broth, rice noodles, herbs, and meat – usually beef or chicken.
The Tuoi Tre representative stressed that the festival would be not only a culinary event but also an occasion for people-to-people and culture exchanges.
The newspaper expects the Vietnam Phở Festival 2024 to help boost Vietnam-South Korea trade and enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership.
For his part, Lee expressed his confidence in South Korean people’s support of the festival.
He spoke highly of Tuoi Tre’s selection of the time to hold the festival as the weather is often cool in Seoul in September.
He also recommended some venues for the Vietnam Phở Festival 2024.

Lee shared that he planned to open a pho restaurant in Seoul when he retires.
“It will be great If there is a pho festival held by Tuoi Tre newspaper in the next seven years.”
The South Korean Embassy in Vietnam committed to supporting and connecting the organizer of the Vietnam Phở Festival 2024 and relevant units in the coming time.
“I know that there are many difficulties to organize a large event abroad, but as a lover of Vietnamese food, I hope to have more opportunities to promote Vietnamese cuisine and help South Korean people understand Vietnam’s culture, especially pho,” Lee said.
Day of Pho (December 12) was initiated by Tuoi Tre newspaper in 2017 and has been held annually since then.
The event went international for the first time in 2023 when Tuoi Tre held it in Japan under the name of Vietnam Phở Festival.
