The United Arab Emirates (UAE) team triumphed at the Nha Trang International Light Bay Festival 2024, Vietnam’s first international drone light show contest, held in Nha Trang, the capital of south-central Khanh Hoa Province, on Saturday evening.

The closing night of the 'Glorious Galaxy'-themed festival took place at Vinpearl Harbour, a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex on Hon Tre Island in Nha Trang Bay.

It featured a competition between teams from the UAE and France under the theme 'Night of the Wonders.'

Teams from China and South Korea competed on the festival’s opening day on July 13 at Hai Thang Tu Square in Nha Trang, showcasing performances under the theme 'Glamour Nha Trang.'

Nicknamed ‘the light wizard,’ the UAE team utilized 1,000 super-light and bright drones to recreate images representing Vietnam’s traditional cultural values, such as Vietnamese coffee filters, Dong Son bronze drums, the Lac Bird, and lotus flowers, along with the charming landscapes of Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa.

The French team, with an equal number of drones, wowed the audience with a performance that took viewers back in time to witness world wonders such as the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Lighthouse of Alexandria in Egypt, the Great Wall of China, and Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay.

Le Thu Thao, a tourist from Hanoi, expressed her excitement to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, saying she was deeply impressed by the colorful and diverse drone lights illuminating the night sky.

Another attendee, Le Trung Dan, a Nha Trang resident, shared that his family eagerly waited on Nha Trang beach to watch the drone performances from Hon Tre Island.

"The drones' wide flight range made them look stunning when viewed from the mainland," Dan remarked, hoping that Nha Trang will continue to host such an attractive festival annually.

On the opening day, the South Korean and Chinese teams delivered spectacular drone light shows featuring impressive and beautiful depictions of both Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa.

Among the competitors, the UAE team stood out, earning top marks from judges and the audience for its superior performances, Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper reported.

In addition to the championship title for the UAE team, the festival organizers awarded prizes for the best technique, image, and story to the South Korean, French, and Chinese teams, respectively.

During the closing night, a representative from Guinness World Records presented two certificates: one for the world’s largest light drone show of wonders (performed by the French team) and another for the world’s largest light drone show featuring the Lac Bird, a Vietnamese cultural symbol (performed by the UAE team), to Khanh Hoa Province’s representatives.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dinh Van Thieu, deputy chairman of the Khanh Hoa administration, expressed pride in the province becoming the first in Vietnam to have set two Guinness World Records.

According to estimates from the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, hotels in Nha Trang achieved an average room occupancy rate of over 90 percent during the festival.

The event attracted over 50 million live views on television and other media channels, generated more than five million interactions on social media, and inspired nearly 2,000 domestic and international articles.
