'Floral Dress' by Khanh Phan captures farmers collecting water lilies in the southern province of Long An, Vietnam.

This photo, taken by Vietnamese photographer Khanh Phan and entitled ‘Floral Dress,' captures farmers collecting water lilies in the southern province of Long An, Vietnam.

The photo won the Grand Prize in the Photo category at the eighth SkyPixel Annual Photo and Video Contest announced on March 3.

“Women harvest water lilies and form a floral dress on the water,” the photo description reads on the contest’s website.

“During the high water season, women use a small boat to collect water lilies, a job that has been practiced for a long time in southern Vietnam.”

According to Khanh Phan, she wanted to introduce the long-standing tradition of harvesting water lilies in the floating season to world audiences by joining the photo competition.

“I want to create wonderful things out of traditional materials and present a colorful, beautiful and vibrant Vietnam,” she told Tuoi Tre News.

“I hope people who see the photos will enjoy it and want to travel to Vietnam.”

Khanh took the photo in October 2022 while she taught two British bloggers about water lilies photography in Long An.

“I created this photo out of my love for the Mekong Delta region which is home to kind and gentle people,” Khanh said.

“They work hard and maintain good old traditions.”
