Many communes in Luc Ngan District, Bac Giang Province, northern Vietnam have been shrouded in lychee red over the past few days, with farmers riding their motorcycles to transport the fruits to purchase points from early morning to late afternoon before they are exported to China.

The red of the road created by lychees has painted a unique picture in the district, considered as a hub of the fruit in Vietnam.

This year, the lychee harvest season spans from June 5 to July 20.

When lychees are ripe, either traders will come to orchards to harvest them, or farmers will pick the fruits and transport them to purchase points.

Undergoing a slew of steps from processing, and cleaning, to soaking lychees into icy water, they are boxed and sent to border gates.

Luc Ngan is expected to harvest a staggering 98,000 metric tons of lychees this year.
