French artists leveraged 3D Mapping technology to transform the Ngo Mon relic in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam into an enchanting spectacle on Tuesday night in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-France diplomatic relations.

The administration of Thua Thien-Hue Province and the French Embassy in Hanoi collaborated to organize the artistic performance program ‘Hue by Light – The Live Show’ at the Meridian Gate, also known as the South Gate or Ngo Mon in Vietnamese, which is the main gate to the Imperial City located within the citadel of Hue in the province.

The show, entirely free of charge, drew an audience of thousands.

Conducted by AC3 Studio, the team behind the lighting segment for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, the program featured French artists, experts, and cutting-edge 3D mapping lighting technology.

During the gig, the French artists utilized a projector system with a light intensity of 300,000 lumens to cast mesmerizing 3D visual effects on Ngo Mon.

Prior to the performance, they had meticulously surveyed each brick at Ngo Mon to obtain precise parameters for illuminating the relic and creating lifelike 3D images.

Kicking off the program, French artist Sébastien Tellier delivered a piano concerto to the eager audience.

As the first piano note resonated, the bricks of Ngo Mon illuminated, creating a stunning visual effect with the sun symbol at the center, eliciting excitement from the crowd.

Under the theme ‘Four Seasons,’ the French artists guided viewers through four segments representing spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

Additionally, they virtualized elements of the royal court of Nguyen Dynasty (1802–1945), including dragons and phoenixes symbolizing nobility.

French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser said that the spectacular performance marked the conclusion of a memorable year celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France.

She is optimistic that this event will pave the way for continued friendship and cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the realms of economic collaboration, education, and cultural preservation.
