Rather than opting for the well-known attractions in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, many tourists chose to explore untouched and uninhabited islands within the city, such as Bich Dam Island, during the recent Lunar New Year holiday, also known as Tet.

The island captivates tourists, particularly those seeking an escape from bustling cities, with its tranquility.

Bich Dam stands out as one of the most secluded islands in Nha Trang, forming part of the Hon Tre Island Cluster in Nha Trang Bay.

The 250.91-hectare island is now home to over 800 residents, who are mainly earning their daily bread by farming and catching seafood and working as freelancers.

Due to the lack of developed tourism services on Bich Dam Island, its pristine beauty has been preserved in its original state.

Bich Dam Island derives its name from the consistently clear waters surrounding it, resembling the purity of jade throughout the year.

To reach Bich Dam Island from Phu Quy Wharf on the mainland of Nha Trang City, visitors would need over an hour, as there is only one daily boat trip to the island.

In the event that tourists miss the scheduled boat, they have the option to hire speedboats for transportation to Bich Dam Island.

Tran Quynh Nhu, a 33-year-old tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, said she had visited Bich Dam Island twice.

“When I first arrived here, I was impressed by the peaceful life on the island. My family planned to pitch camp and hold an outdoor party before leaving on the sixth day of the lunar year [or Thursday].”

Hon Lon Lighthouse is a must-visit destination on Bich Dam Island. It is one of the five oldest lighthouses in Vietnam.

The lighthouse was built in 1890 and is considered the roof of Bich Dam Island since visitors can have a view of the entire Nha Trang Bay from there.

The island is also home to An Thanh Temple, Bich Dam Communal House, and small eateries offering local specialties, especially fresh seafood.

Nguyen The Trong, a 39-year-old tourist from Nha Trang City, said, "I visit Bich Dam every few months. While I've explored different islands in Nha Trang Bay, I find the utmost relaxation when I come here.

"I love lounging in a hammock suspended under the trees near the sea and reading books.

"The residents here are incredibly friendly, hospitable, and generously offer tourists fish and squids at no charge."
