The ‘green lungs’ of Da Nang

Da Nang is home to green forests besides its famously beautiful beaches.
The forests, which are considered the 'green lungs' of the city on Vietnam's central coast, have been protected by the community throughout history.
Son Tra Peninsula

About 10km northeast of Da Nang's center is Son Tra Peninsula in Son Tra District.
The nature reserve features a rich and diverse natural ecosystem with rare animals and plants, including the endangered red-shanked douc langurs.
Not only is it an attraction for tourists, Son Tra Peninsula is appealing to experts and scientists in and outside Vietnam.

Nam O forest

Heading northwest along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street from the center of Da Nang, one can meet with the deep green color of the forest on Nam O Reef in Lien Chieu District.
According to Nam O villagers, the reef has been considered a forbidden mountain for long, with cutting trees and taking rocks away being forbidden.
This regulation has been strictly followed by villagers for many generations.
Thanks to the unity of local residents, the location is still intact today and has become a favorite spot for tourists, especially after the Lunar New Year festival, which ended on February 19, when the rocks are covered with green moss, creating a beautiful scene.

Trung Son forest
Some kilometers from Nam O Reef is another natural forest, Trung Son forest in Hoa Lien Commune, Hoa Vang District.
The lush green forest is surrounded by urban projects and asphalt roads.

Trung Son forest is home to many types of perennial trees that are classified as rare, as well as many species of birds. There are also historical relics in the forest.

As per the elders of Trung Son Village, a longstanding tradition has existed since the establishment of the village, wherein local residents regard the forest as sacred, prohibiting any tree-cutting activities for the collection of firewood.
