The Vietnam Phở Festival 2023, which kicked off in Yoyogi Park, Tokyo on Saturday, features a wide range of culinary activities and art performances on the second and last day in Japan, with lobster pho being the highlight.

Supported by favorable weather, the festival kept luring thousands of event-goers from early on Sunday morning.

At the Pho Ta - Binh Tay booth, crowds of visitors were excited by a performance of cooking lobster pho.

The brand brought such a new and appetizing type of pho to the festival in the hope of leveling up the Vietnamese pho, said chef Khai Vu.

Lobster pho, with broth cooked from beef bone and lobster, refects the brand’s creativity and dedication to creating new varieties of the dish.

“We desire to renew pho recipes. Young customers love modernity and novelty, so lobster pho is a unique offering,” the chef said.

Meanwhile, other booths of traditional pho were crammed with revelers and pho fans.

They were patient and joined queues for pho, a signature dish of Vietnam.

Many Japanese foodies reviewed the dish and made a comparison of the rice noodles of pho among the participating brands.

The process of making pho noodles drew attention from numerous families, as parents wanted their children to learn about the noodles that are made of rice.

The festive atmosphere heated up when Japanese bands started performing onstage.

Vietnamese singers Hien Thuc and Hamlet Truong were set to perform in the afternoon.

The two-day 'Vietnam Phở Festival 2023' aims to enhance the global recognition of Vietnamese culinary culture, particularly the Southeast Asian country’s popular beef noodle soup.

The festival also serves as a tangible commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

The event is co-organized by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper and Saigontourist Group in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association, and several Japanese partners.

Among many chefs attending the 'Vietnam Phở Festival 2023' are winners of the ‘Hoa Hoi Vang’ (Golden Star Anise) award Nguyen Tien Hai, Nguyen Tu Tin, and Pham Quang Duy.

'Hoa Hoi Vang' is awarded each year during the 'Day of Pho' to honor pho chefs from across Vietnam.

Participating restaurants in this year’s event include Pho Dau, Pho Hai Thien, Hotel Majestic Saigon, Pho Phu Gia, Pho’S, Sen SASCO, Pho Ta-Binh Tay Food, Pho VGCC, and Pho Thin Bo Ho.

The festival is rolled out in association with national carrier Vietnam Airlines, Suntory Beverage & Food, Southern Airports Services Joint Stock Company (SASCO), Dai-ichi Life, Simply Food, Pho’S, and some other enterprises.

Miss Intercontinental 2022 Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc is the ambassador for the festival.
