Whenever Vietnam is deep into the summer months, holidaymakers throughout the country eagerly hunt down cooler climates for weekend getaways — and it seems Bach Ma National Park in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue has always emerged as a top choice.

For years, Hue locals have referred to Bach Ma as the ‘Da Lat of Hue’ thanks to its temperate climate and ability to exhibit all four seasons in just one day, similar to Da Lat City in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

Many say summer is the best time of the year to visit the Bach Ma National Park thanks to its dry climate and shallow streams of crystal clear water.

Visitors to the forest typically schedule just one day and one night for their trip, giving them enough time to watch dusk and dawn at the top of Bach Ma Mountain — a 1,400-meter-high peak that offers stunning panoramic sunrises and sunsets.

Rain usually falls on the mountain in the late afternoon. Afterward, as the sun begins to sink below the horizon, the sky fills with color as light reflects clouds of mist.

To catch sunrise, visitors need only stay the night and wake up at 3:00 am for a climb to the peak. It is an early start, but it is worth it to enjoy the light diving into the Tam Giang lagoon at the foot of the mountain.

On the peak of Bach Ma sits a bell and Vong Hai Dai (Ocean-Viewing Platform) which were built during the French colonial period in Vietnam.

The forest features the Ngu Ho (Five Lakes) and Do Quyen Waterfall.

The best time of day to visit these two areas is in the morning to catch the sun shining through the forest canopy to illuminate the waters.
