As the sun shines scorching bright, downtown Ho Chi Minh City casts a spell over passers-by with the vibrancy of rosy trumpet flowers blossoming, making it the most sought-after ops of this season.

Originating in America, tabebuia rosea or pink poui – also known as trumpet flowers – mimic a rosy version of the namesake musical instrument.

Fully-grown tabebuia rosea can tower up to 30 meters high during their blooming season between early April to June.

When the plant is flowering, most of its leaves fall from its branches, leaving just clusters of pink, trumpet-shaped flowers.

This year, however, Saigon’s trumpet flowers have bloomed early due to the recent hot weather.

Unfortunately, the flowers only live for three to four days after blooming.

Such flowers were imported into and planted in Ho Chi Minh City in 2009 as part of a project to beautify the city, as they can thrive in the region’s hot weather and dry soil.

The rosy trumpet flowers bring a rare poetic grace to the streets of the city, transforming local roads into a romantic backdrop for wannabe Instagram models.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the blooming trees can be easily spotted on such streets as Dien Bien Phu in Binh Thanh District, Vo Thi Sau in District 3, and Vo Van Kiet in District 1.

Niem Ngoc Trang, a resident of Binh Thanh District, recently did a photoshoot with friends afront the trumpet flowers on Dien Bien Phu Street.

“I asked my friends to come here on the weekend to snap some photos for Facebook," Trang told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

"The color of the flowers reminds us of Da Lat City.”
