More than 100 watercolor paintings portraying southern people and landscapes by 20 artists from Ho Chi Minh City are on display for the first time at Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature-Imperial Academy) in Hanoi.

The exhibition is being held by the Vietnam Fine Arts Association as an effort to connect southern painters with their Hanoi counterparts.

Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam is selected as the venue for the event due to its emergence as a creative space of Hanoi, besides its usual function as a relic destination.

The exhibition, which will welcome visitors until May 24, aims to present the stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and modern lifestyle of southern Vietnam to art enthusiasts in the capital city.

Moreover, the organizers want to reintroduce the use of watercolor as a medium for painting, which seems to have been neglected in recent times.

The exhibition showcases a diverse range of painting techniques and perspectives from 20 artists hailing from Ho Chi Minh City, allowing the public in Hanoi to gain new and more vibrant insights into the southern region of the country.

The artists’ watercolors depict various aspects of daily life, cultural traditions, heritage, and natural beauty.

These paintings also serve as a testament to the artists’ affection and admiration for their homeland.
