The 'Am Thuc Me Lam’ (Mom’s Simple Meals) channel will be among Vietnam's contestants at YouTube FanFest 2020.

The verified Facebook page of the ‘Am Thuc Me Lam’ YouTube channel, a cooking channel with over 698,000 subscribers, has announced that it will be participating alongside YouTube channels from around the world in YouTube FanFest 2020 on Sunday.

“We’re so happy and so proud! After years of relentless effort, 'Am Thuc Me Lam' has been chosen as a Vietnamese representative to join in the world YouTube FanFest 2020,” the channel's announcement reads.

The channel includes a series of videos featuring 55-year-old Duong Thi Cuong, a farmer from Phu Binh District in northern Thai Nguyen Province who is growing in popularity on Vietnamese social media thanks to the videos her son has taken of her cooking traditional dishes.

Hung shared that he first launched the channel as a way to preserve his mother's traditional approach to gardening and farming.

Cuong, meanwhile, is thankful for the bond that the YouTube channel has helped foster between her and her son.

The dishes featured on the channel cash in on the ageless appeal of quintessentially Vietnamese dishes like sweet rice balls, boiled snails, and crab and vegetable soup.

“I try to shoot simple images and angles that promote tranquility," Hung said.

"The videos avoid the noise and bustle of urban life and are shot at our simple rustic house in the countryside.

"I hope they warm up the hearts of those who are living far away from home."

This approach has helped 'Am Thuc Me Lam'’s popularity grow so extensively that many foreign viewers have reached out to request English subtitles.
