Ho Chi Minh City authorities have recently launched the Ky Dai Quang Trung promenade near Nguyen Tri Phuong Market in District 10 under a pilot program, attracting thousands of local people and tourists from the neighboring areas.
Since the end of last month, the night market has featured around 50 kiosks selling commodities like clothes, accessories, souvenirs, and street food.
Located next to the crossroads of Ba Hat and Nguyen Lam Streets, the Ky Dai Quang Trung pedestrian zone covers an area of 1,200 square meters with a length of 100 meters, with its kiosks open from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm every day.
Amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, visitors are required to follow certain rules like body temperature checks and washing hands before entering the promenade.
In addition, a speaker system is used to remind pedestrians to wear face masks and maintain an appropriate distance to avoid risks of coronavirus transmission.
According to Tran Van Tuan from the board of management of the market, the venue is under a trial run before it is put into full operation by the end of December.
“The pedestrian street will open all nights but Monday for power system maintenance. We have janitors collect the waste regularly to ensure that the space is always clean,” said Tran Van Tuan.
“The street food sellers are required to meet standards on food safety, which will be checked regularly by local authorities,” Tuan added.
Hanh My, a resident in District 5, Ho Chi Minh city was excited to visit the walking street for the first time.
“I heard about the opening of the night market and invited my friends to come to check it out. It’s joyful here. There are many kiosks selling clothes and food,” My told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
“I feel really happy to have a new entertainment venue not far from home. Nearby residents will enjoy it, too.”
