The Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival will kick off in the Vietnamese capital in late October to enchant residents and tourists when autumn arrives.

Fest-goers can enjoy ao dai (Vietnam’s traditional costume) shows, ao dai parades, and art performances, while immersing themselves in the festive atmosphere during the three-day event.

The Hanoi Department of Tourism held a press briefing on Monday to introduce the fest and relevant activities which are aimed at enticing local and international visitors to the capital city for the rest of the year.

Speaking at the press conference, Nguyen Hong Minh, deputy director of the municipal department, said that this year’s festival is expected to honor and promote traditional cultural values.

Ao dai is esteemed as a source of creativity and an outstanding tourism product.

“The Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival 2023 will play a role in popularizing the capital city as a safe, friendly, high-quality, and attractive destination,” Minh said.

The fest will start with an opening ceremony, centered around the ‘Explore the Beauty of Hanoi’ message, on October 27.

The stage for the ceremony will be designed to resemble a historic ship covered by elegant ao dai.

The opening ceremony will be highlighted by performances by famed singers Ha Le, Bao Tram, and Nguyen Ngoc Anh.

Within the framework of the fest, a long line of programs will take place to bring local and international visitors to a feast for the eyes and ears.

Among them are a music night titled ‘Hanoi Colors,’ an exhibition featuring 60 booths, a public ao dai road, ao dai parades, and a seminar on the orientation of ao dai to tourism connection.

Attending the fest as a designer, Miss Vietnam Ngoc Han will bring 30 ao dai designs to the event.

Ngoc Han said that she was so excited to showcase her ao dai collection encapsulating the quintessence of global values at the fest with a topic of ao dai and integration.

The collection was inspired by her trips to South Korea, Japan, India, and Europe.

As one of the highlights of the festival, a public ao dai road called 'Stroll along Guom (Sword) Lake’ will stretch along Dinh Tien Hoang Street to recreate a history and culture space spotted with miniatures of craft villages, a lotus pond, Mot Cot (One-Pillar) Pagoda, and Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

An ao dai performance by 600 Hanoi women is expected to wow the audience.

The festival will wrap up on October 29.
