The People’s Committee of District 7 in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday launched multiple boat tours to promote the city’s waterway tourism and respond to the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Week, which kicked off on Monday and lasts until Saturday.

Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, deputy director of the municipal Department of Tourism, said that the city is focusing on opening more waterway tours to unlock its potential for water-based tourism and boost product diversification.

Among seven new daily boat tours, three are scheduled to start in the morning, departing from Bach Dang Wharf, dropping by Cu Chi and Can Gio Districts, and then ending in neighboring Long An Province.

The four others include a sunset-watching boat tour in Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe Canal, a 30-minute and 60-minute Saigon River sightseeing tour during which tourists can admire Thanh Da Peninsula, and a sunset yacht tour on the Saigon River.

These boats are set to depart at 4:30-5:00 pm every day.

A slew of water sports activities have been introduced to tourists.

Hieu urged travel firms to intensify their marketing activities and accelerate the application of technology in tourism to facilitate locals’ and visitors’ access to waterway tourism products and services.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to turn waterway tourism into a unique feature by 2030, and to increase the numbers of speedboats and passenger ships to 200 and 100, respectively, by 2025.
