Da Lat wins Asia Festival City award

Da Lat, renowned for its abundance of flowers, has been honored with the title of Asia Festival City by the International Festivals and Events Association – Asia (IFEA – Asia), according to local authorities.
The recognition and award were announced at the IFEA – Asia’s 2024 Pinnacle Awards and Asia Festival City Conference on February 27-29 in Thailand, Dang Quang Tu, chairman of the city’s administration, said on Wednesday.
This honor was given to Da Lat, the capital city of Lam Dong Province in Vietnam's Central Highlands region, based on the successful organization of flower festivals in the city since 2005, Tu said.
Da Lat was given the Asia Festival City award in the 'Best Flower and Garden Festival' category, he added.
Many other categories are in the fields of music, dance, cultural heritage, folklore, entertainment, and others.
Accepting the award on behalf of the city, Tu received the Asia Festival City accolade from the representative of the IFEA – Asia on Wednesday evening.

In addition, Da Lat was also placed in the top Five Impressive Festival Cities in Asia, the official said.
Earlier in December 2023, the city’s administration submitted a dossier to the IFEA – Asia to become a candidate for the Asian Festival Award.
As a prominent event and unique brand of the city, Da Lat Flower Festival has a 20-year history of development.
In 2004, Da Lat hosted an event promoting the beauty of its flowers as part of the celebrations of 110 years of its establishment and development.
Based on the success of the event, Lam Dong Province authorities organized the first Da Lat Flower Festival in 2005.
In 2009, at the third Da Lat Flower Festival, Da Lat became the only city in Vietnam approved by the prime minister as a 'Flower Festival City,' and such a festival has continued to be held every two years ever since.
To date, Da Lat City has successfully organized nine flower festivals with diverse themes, attracting 300,000 - 400,000 visitors for each event.
