Vietnam expects to purchase 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in order to immunize about two-thirds of its population of nearly 98 million people. The national coronavirus vaccine fund was established to realize that expectation.

The country needs approximately VND25.2 trillion (US$1.1 billion) to achieve its vaccination goals, VND21 trillion ($909 million) of which will be spent on purchasing vaccines while the remainder is put toward transportation, storage, and injection.

Vietnam’s COVID-19 Vaccine Fund was set up at the request of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 26 and officially debuted at a ceremony in Hanoi on June 5.

People currently residing in Vietnam who wish to donate can text ‘COVID NK’ to 1408.

As guided by the national text-to-donate program, ‘N’ is any number from 1 to 2,000, and ‘K’ stands for thousands of Vietnamese dong. For example, a text message reading ‘COVID 20K’ will contribute VND20,000 ($0.87) to the fund.
